Gothic Journal Using Kits from Ink & Page

Here is a gorgeous journal that I made for my granddaughter, for Christmas. She loves the gothic style, so when I asked her if she would like a gothic journal, she was like YESSSSS!!! I hope she will love it. Have a look at this short video, to see how it turned out...

Midnight Gothic & Wraithwood Manor, but
there are LOTS MORE you can choose from!

Make Ephemera by Tracing Pieces from Other Kits

Sometimes you might want ephemera to match journal kits that don't include enough pieces. No problem! Just trace pieces from another kit onto printed cardstock to match the journal that you're making.

Here are examples that I made using a corner pocket and a rectangular pocket from my Vintage Sewing Journal freebies, available in my Facebook group.

Place the ephemera pieces on your printed cardstock.

Trace the outer edges with pencil.

Cut out the new ephemera pieces.

Mark the placement of any fold lines onto the new ephemera,

to help you when you are making flaps that fold under.

Fold the flaps over the edge of a ruler, and then

flatten them firmly with a bone folder. You can

also use the handle of a butter knife, to do this.

Put a little bit of white glue on the flaps and

place them on the page of your journal where

you want them. Decorate according to your

journal's theme and your own personal taste.

Kite Embellishment for Journals and Happy Mail

Need ideas for cute embellishments, for your journals, happy mail, cards or other paper crafts? How about these adorable kites? You can leave them plain or make them as fancy as you like!

This kite is from my "Timeless" journal kit.

I added pearl trim, mulberry paper flowers, and bling.

It can be glued to a page or card, used for a hidden paper clip,

or however you like! Make it as plain or as fancy as you need, for your project.

Included in the kit are these tiny bits to add to your kite tail, if you

want to use them. Glue them to a piece of yarn, and your kite is ready to "fly".

A few more ideas for tails. Use all of the fancy yarns and trims from your stash. 

Make your kite embellishments special by decorating them to suit your project.

Here is a stuffed pocket / loaded envelope that I made to

send as a happy mail for a pen pal. The kite in the top right corner

is attached to a wooden barbecue stick, and tucked into the pocket.

I left the tail to hang down the front of the pocket.

For this little folio, I glued one of the kites to the page and tucked

another one into the pocket, to use as a journal card (you can write 

a message or one of your favorite quotes on the back of it).

Make the kites "dimensional" by folding on the lines, 

or you can leave them flat, if you prefer.

Journaling with Joie de Fi

Joie de Fi is the name of a YouTube channel that I really enjoy watching. I believe this is the creator's real name. It's quite interesting, because n French "joie de fi" means "the joy of being carefree" (literally "the joy of not taking notice"). The name perfectly describes her casual, carefree journaling style. I find it so sweet and relaxing.

It's a lesson to us all. Rather than trying to be "perfect" we should just enjoy what we are doing and creating. I love it!
